Today, I met a “car guy”….you know the kind….one who wears the shirt, the hat and discusses cars no matter what the conversation…even over the neighborhood BBQ hamburgers and potato salad. I love it! And in traveling around the nation a bit, I’ve quickly realized that east coast car guys are very different from west coast car guys. I went to a car show last month and I was “schooled”. Those on the east coast have clubs, have to painstakingly put their cars in storage many times due to weather and often specialize in foreign sports models. But the west coast car fanatics are a bit different I’m learning. Most are able to drive their vehicles all year round and many collect broad spectrums of cars….50′s Chevy to a brand new Ferrari.

And coming from a family of Michigan natives, those “car guys” are unique to themselves. My dad had a car with a record player in it back in the early 60s. And I think I’m cool with my SUV and an iPod…..I have no idea what cool is, but I’m learning.
I love these “car guys” who are committed to fine machinery and craftmanship, timeless creative design and who exude dedication to maintenance and preservation. So to every “car guy and gal” out there, a big salute from every soccer mom in an SUV!
