“What is your mother? A lioness among lions! She lay down among the young lions and reared her cubs.” Ezekiel 19:2
I recently joined this ladies book club weekly meeting called, “Lioness Arising” which is a book/study guide series by Lisa Bevere. I have read many of her books, but this one really interests me because it was about women, motherhood and nature. So truly unlike me, I offered to host the group and open my home. My OCD often times inhibits me from being truly hospitable, but I realized it’s an area of my life in which I really need work. I want my home to be a vessel, open to people who need it. But do they have to walk on my carpet with their shoes and place their drinks on my coffee table? Terrible I know.
But after our first session, I loved it! I loved the people, I love hosting and more than anything, I loved the material. At first, I thought it was going to be about standing up, being aggressive and taking care of business which appealed to my aggressive and confrontational manner. And it is in many ways, but it’s actually more about doing it all with grace and virtue and doing it for all mankind….not just for oneself, for women and not just for one’s own children.
I’ve realized that I need that balance in my life. I get indignant about areas that I feel so “right” about that I often forget that it’s about people & relationships. As a mother, I thought I would get more tender and nurturing and in some ways, I have. But I’ve also become like an episode of Wild Kingdom where you see a mother fiercely attack to protect her young!
So I’m hoping this series helps me learn the balance, time & place for my actions and to be sensitive to the Spirit of God on my purpose in how to do all that I’ve been called to do in all areas of my life.
